Something truly special is happening this October – a DXpedition not only technically ambitious, but one that offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young amateur radio operators to experience DXpeditioning at the highest level for the very first time.
The PJ6Y DXpedition will activate the island of Saba (IOTA NA-145) with a diverse international team of fourteen operators, including nine first-time young DXpeditioners! Additionally, 30–40 young hams will join remotely using the innovative NexGen2 RiBs made possible through a grant from the Northern California DX Foundation. The dates of operation are October 15 to October 29, 2025.
With focus on training and knowledge transfer this is more than a DXpedition – it is an investment in the future of our hobby.
Our goal is to fully cover the travel and operational expenses of all our young team members – so that financial circumstances are not a barrier to participation for these enthusiastic and dedicated young hams.
We are not operating from an existing station. The team will set up three local and two remote stations, operating CW, SSB, FT8, and satellite, from two separate operating locations. There will be no unattended QSOs.
Dxpedition Workshops. To ensure success, and prior to our departure, we are holding a series of workshops led by DXpedition veterans Gene K5GS, Glenn W0GJ, Ralph K0IR, Gerben PG5M, and Gregg W6IZT. In these sessions we will cover a broad range of topics related to the planning and execution of a successful Dxpedition. We are preparing these young hams to become future DXpedition leaders. These workshops will be recorded and made available to our donors and sponsors.
A Special Thank You – With a Downloadable Certificate of Support!
Every donor and every member of a club that supports our project— will receive a personalized, downloadable certificate of appreciation as a token of our sincere gratitude.
Your support will be remembered and displayed proudly—because you believed in the future of amateur radio.
Your club members will have the opportunity to meet our young ops on a Zoom call while we are on Saba. It is a fantastic way to experience the impact that your support has on these young hams.
